ISLAMABAD: In the wake of Imran Khan’s arrest by Rangers personnel from the Islamabad High Court (IHC), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Asad Umar took to Twitter to condemn the arrest and announced that a six-member committee would announce the party’s next plan of action.
Expressing his dismay, Umar stated, “Pakistan’s biggest political leader was arrested after an attack on the high court. The whole world is shown that there is no law left in the country.” He further informed that the committee, formed by Imran Khan and headed by Shah Mehmood Qureshi, will unveil PTI’s strategy going forward.
Reacting to the “illegal” move, PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi disapproved of his party chief’s arrest and called upon the entire nation to take to the streets in protest. He urged supporters to show their dissent against the arrest.
PTI alleges torture on Imran Khan
In an audio message shared through PTI’s official Twitter account, PTI leader Murad Saeed claimed that Imran Khan had been subjected to torture during the arrest.
He urged PTI supporters, particularly the youth, to join in protest against the arrest, stating, “It’s time to free Pakistan from these oppressors and false gods. It’s time for Haqeeqi Azadi.”
Meanwhile, the PTI condemned the arrest of its chairman, labeling it as an “abduction” by the law enforcement agency. The party called on its supporters and workers to stage protests nationwide.
In response to the call, PTI workers held demonstrations in various cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Karachi, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Multan, and Mardan.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced protests across the country following the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan.
The appeal was made from the official Twitter handle of the PTI.
