PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership has refused not to be part of the proceedings of the apex committee meeting, presently underway in Peshawar to discuss counter-terrorism measures.

Senior PTI leader and former defence minister Parvez Khattak said his party did not receive any formal invitation to attend the meeting of the apex committee. His comments came amid reports that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had also invited two representatives from the PTI to the apex committee moot by extending the invitation through federal minister Ayaz Sadiq.

The PTI leader said that Sadiq had extended him the invitation as a friend and said that a formal invitation should be sent to the PTI Chairman Imran Khan to attend the meeting. Meanwhile, another senior party leader and former speaker of National Assembly Asad Qaiser also refused attending the meeting, arguing that political parties were not members of the Apex committee and the meeting was supposed to be attended by government officials and concerned authorities.

Key decisions expected in today’s moot

Key decisions with regard to counter-terrorism are expected to take place in today’s high-level meeting of the Apex Committee that is being chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb said.

The minister said in a tweet that all stakeholders, including higher officials of police, Rangers and security institutions will attend the meeting held at Governor Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa House to discuss anti-terrorism measures.
