ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and lawyer of PTI chairman Imran Khan, Barrister Ali Zaffar said on Friday that his party leader paid for every gift of Toshakhana as per legal requirements.
Talking to the media, Zafar said that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is not a court but an institution, adding that a parliamentarian can only be disqualified by a court of law. He said that the allegations on the former prime minister of hiding his assets were baseless.
Meanwhile, senior PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that ECP shouldn’t be used to pursue minus-one formula, warning that doing so would not be in the national interest. He said that the public has expressed their trust in Imran Khan in the by-elections.
Qureshi added that PTI submitted all details before the ECP in the foreign funding case, whereas, other parties have not been probed with regard to their funding. According to a notice issued yesterday, ECP ordered all the relevant parties or their counsels to appear before the electoral watchdog at its secretariat in Islamabad. The ECP also sent a letter to the Islamabad police requesting “foolproof security” inside and outside the watchdog’s premises for the full day in order to “avoid any untoward incident”.
