Earlier today, both Shireen Mazari and Senator Falak Naz Chitrali, PTI leaders, were granted blanket relief by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) following an order that barred authorities from arresting them.
During their appearance before the judge, seeking relief from further arrest, the court prohibited authorities from conducting further investigations into the two politicians.
The police had requested a three-day remand of both PTI politicians, which was rejected by the court. “No further investigation is needed from Falak Naz and Shireen Mazari,” remarked the judge.
IHC Bars Police from Arresting Shireen Mazari
The court ordered authorities to refrain from arresting them and instructed them to provide details of the cases filed against the politicians.
Earlier, a district and sessions court in Islamabad had dismissed the case against the PTI leaders after they were re-arrested on the previous night, just hours after their release from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.
Both Senator Chitrali and PTI Senior Vice-President Dr. Mazari, who were charged with attempted murder and brandishing a weapon at the Tarnol police station, appeared before Judicial Magistrate Shabbir Bhatti.
The PTI leaders, who were released from Adiala Jail on Tuesday evening based on IHC orders, were immediately re-arrested outside the jail premises, as confirmed by Mazari’s daughter, Imaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir.
The arrests took place during the nationwide protests that erupted after PTI Chairman Imran Khan was taken into custody by Rangers personnel on May 9, following the orders of the National Accountability Bureau.
“Senator Falak Naz’s family and I (& our lawyer) were waiting outside Adiala Jail to receive ama and Falak Naz. Islamabad Police arrested them from outside the jail while we were waiting outside the exit they told us to wait at. We have no idea where they have been taken,” tweeted Mazari-Hazir.
Earlier, Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb of the IHC had declared Mazari’s arrest under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) illegal and ordered her release. The same law was applied to apprehend Senator Naz, and the bench ordered her release as well.
