ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party stated on Tuesday that it considers the statement issued at the conclusion of the special Corps Commander Conference “immensely important.”
The military’s top brass had pledged to prosecute protesters and their accomplices under relevant laws, including the Pakistan Army Act and the Official Secrets Act, following the storming of military installations by PTI workers and supporters on May 9, which the army referred to as a “Black Day.”
In its statement, the PTI acknowledged the significance of the Corps Commander Conference’s statement and expressed concern over the perception of a well-planned strategy to promote violence and chaos, leading to the attack on various government buildings, military structures, and peaceful citizens.
The PTI emphasized its commitment to the Constitution and democracy, believing that solutions to complex issues lie within the boundaries of the law and the Constitution.
PTI defends right to peaceful protest
While the PTI defended the right to peaceful protest guaranteed by the constitution, it reiterated its stance that the violent protests were a response to the illegal arrest of the party chairman.
The party claimed that armed anarchists had infiltrated the peaceful protests as part of a deliberate plan to incite violence and chaos, resulting in the loss of innocent lives and injuries to many.
The PTI condemned attempts to create a divide between the party and the Pakistan Army, asserting that the chaos and riots were orchestrated to pit the two entities against each other.
The party called for a comprehensive investigation to identify the individuals behind these events and expressed its readiness to provide evidence to any independent inquiry.
The PTI reiterated its unwavering faith in the supremacy of the Constitution and the law. The party highlighted that the incident was an unprecedented occurrence in its 27 years of peaceful struggle following an assassination attempt on its chairman last year.
