ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader and former federal minister Fawad Chaudhary on Sunday called for the formation of a commission to probe the revelations made by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
Speaking to the media, Fawad Chaudhary emphasized the importance of Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s statements and said that a commission should be formed to probe the people named by Maulana Fazlur Rehman and those who met him.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), had recently made some controversial remarks regarding the government and the judiciary during his visit to India-administered Jammu and Kashmir.
The revelations sparked a political storm in Pakistan, with opposition parties calling for a fair and thorough investigation.
Expressing surprise at the silence of those accused in the revelations, Mr Chaudhary said that there was a big fire inside India.
PTI criticizes govt for not responding to accusations
He criticized the government of Pakistan for not responding to the accusations and called for the orders of the Supreme Court to be implemented.
“The resolutions passed against the decisions of the Supreme Court have no status,” said Mr Chaudhary, warning that if the decisions of the Supreme Court of Pakistan were not implemented, the entire judiciary would collapse.
Fawad Chaudhry added that it was not the judiciary’s responsibility to issue press releases. He said that the judiciary should speak from its decisions.
The PTI leader’s call for a commission to investigate Maulana’s revelations is likely to add to the ongoing debate about the role of the judiciary and the government in ensuring accountability and transparency in the country’s political system.
The demand for an investigation comes at a time when the country is facing a range of political and economic challenges, including rising inflation, a growing fiscal deficit, and mounting public discontent over the government’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The opposition parties have criticized the government for failing to address these issues and for allegedly using state institutions to suppress dissent and opposition voices.
The PTI, on the other hand, has accused the opposition of trying to destabilize the government and of being involved in corrupt practices.
The call for a commission to investigate Maulana’s revelations is likely to further polarize the political landscape in Pakistan, with both the government and opposition parties vying for public support ahead of the next general elections, scheduled to be held in 2023.
