KARACHI: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Thursday said that all SIM cards registered under the names of deceased people will be blocked starting October 15, 2024.
The PTA advised citizens who wish to transfer such SIMs to their own names to complete the necessary documentation at the franchise or service center of their SIM provider to avoid any disruption in service.
This move is part of a phased plan by the PTA to block Subscriber Identity Modules (SIMs). According to PTA sources, the process began on August 16, following data received from the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).
In the first phase, SIMs registered under fake or canceled CNICs will be blocked. The second phase will address SIMs registered under expired CNICs. In the third and final phase, SIMs registered under CNICs of deceased persons will be blocked.
Furthermore, subscribers have begun receiving notifications on their SIMs about these upcoming changes.
