ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in coordination with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), conducted a successful raid against unlawful SIM activation at a mobile firm franchisee in Wah Cantt.
Digital devices were seized during the operation, including laptops, mobile phones, PCs, and SIM cards (both active and inactive). Four suspects in all were taken into custody.
PTA complaint
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority filed a complaint with the FIA after an abnormal SIM sale trend was discovered at the retail channel.
It is worth noting that PTA announced the implementation of the Multi Finger Biometric Verification System (MBVS) in December 2022. The raid is a part of their efforts to prevent attempts to bypass the new system in advance.
It is proof of the PTA’s dedication and relentless efforts to stop the issuance of illegitimate SIM cards.
