RAWALPINDI: Islamabad United defeated Karachi Kings by six wickets in the 19th fixture of the eighth edition of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) being played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Friday.

Islamabad United chased the 202 runs target against Karachi Kings with four balls to spare to beat their opponents for the sixth time in a row in PSL.

Karachi Kings have set a tough 202-run target for Islamabad United to chase during the 19th match of the PSL 8.

While chasing the target, Azam Khan remained not out on 72 runs in 41 balls as Islamabad reached home in 19.2 overs.

After losing Colin Munro, who scored 11 runs in five balls, in the first over, Rassie van der Dussen and Alex Hales added 50 runs in 30 balls for the second wicket to keep United on track during the run-chase.

However, Hales and Dussen fell quickly after scoring 34 and 22 runs, respectively, with Islamabad reduced to 69-3 in 7.2 overs.

At this stage, Azam Khan and Faheem Ashraf stitched a brilliant century partnership, 124 runs in 69 balls, to keep Islamabad in control of the run-chase.

Asif Ali smashed a six, followed by a four, to finish off the run-chase in the final over of the innings.

Earlier, Imad Wasim’s splendid 54-ball 92 runs not out helped Karachi Kings to set a tough target of 202 runs for Islamabad United.

The openers – Adam Rossington and Sharjeel Khan – failed to build a strong opening total. Shoaib Malik and Tayyab Tahir could not stay for long on the pitch due to excellent performance with the ball by Islamabad United.

After the Karachi Kings suffered early losses, captain Imad Wasim played heroic to recover the team from pressure and turn the tables on Islamabad United. With a total of 13 boundaries, he made unbeaten 92 runs that propelled the team to build a tough target for the opponent team. Muhammad Irfan made 30 runs before Tom Curra removed him.

Karachi Kings won the toss earlier and decided to bat first against Islamabad United.
