ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 10 is set to resume on May 17, following a temporary suspension due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.  The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, confirmed the resumption in a recent social media post.

“HBL PSL X picks up from where it left off! 6 teams, 0 fear,” Naqvi posted. “Let the aura take over as we unite and celebrate the spirit of cricket.”

“Get ready for 8 thrilling matches starting 17th May, leading up to the Grand Final on 25th May. Best of luck to all the teams.”

The league faced an abrupt halt after an Indian drone incident near the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium raised significant security concerns.  Initially, the PCB considered relocating the remaining matches to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to ensure the safety of both domestic and international players.

However, following a ceasefire agreement and improved regional stability, the decision was made to host the final eight matches in Pakistan.

PCB’s commitment

Chairman Naqvi expressed regret over the earlier postponement but highlighted the PCB’s commitment to keeping politics separate from sports.  He stated, “The PCB has always stood by the position that politics and sports need to be kept apart. However, in view of the extremely irresponsible and dangerous Indian act of targeting the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium… the PCB has decided to shift the remaining matches to UAE so that the domestic as well as foreign cricketers… can be saved from the possible reckless targeting by India.”

The resumption of the league is contingent upon the return of foreign players, who had been evacuated amid the conflict.  Franchise teams are actively coordinating with these players to facilitate their return.

PSL’ resumption

The PCB remains optimistic, noting that there are no broadcasting issues and that arrangements can be made swiftly once player availability is confirmed.

As the league prepares to restart, the Quetta Gladiators lead the points table, having already secured a spot in the playoffs.  They are followed by the Karachi Kings and defending champions Islamabad United.

The Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi are also in contention, while the Multan Sultans have been eliminated from the tournament.

The PCB’s decision to resume the PSL in Pakistan underscores its dedication to the sport and its fans, aiming to bring back the excitement of cricket to home grounds while ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants.
