LAHORE, Pakistan: The 21st match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 10 between Quetta Gladiators and Lahore Qalandars at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium was abandoned due to persistent rain and strong winds on Thursday.
The match was halted after just 11.3 overs of play, with Lahore Qalandars batting first.
Earlier, Quetta Gladiators had won the toss and elected to bowl. The game could not resume due to continuous rainfall and a windstorm that swept across the city in the evening.
Before the rain interruption, Lahore Qalandars had posted 98 runs for the loss of one wicket.
Fakhar Zaman and Abdullah Shafique gave the team a steady start, while Daryl Mitchell and Sam Billings were yet to bat.
As per PSL rules, both teams were awarded one point each. Lahore Qalandars remain in second place on the points table, securing nine points from eight matches.
They are closely followed by Quetta Gladiators, who also have nine points but from seven matches, keeping the playoff race tightly contested.
The match was expected to be a crucial encounter as both teams were in strong form leading into the fixture.
Each had secured three wins in their last five completed games, reflecting consistent performances.
Lahore Qalandars, led by Shaheen Shah Afridi, were looking to capitalise on their momentum, while Saud Shakeel’s Quetta Gladiators hoped to climb to the top of the table with a win.
This was the 20th head-to-head match between the two franchises in PSL history. Lahore Qalandars hold a slight edge with 10 wins, while Quetta Gladiators have triumphed on nine occasions.
According to the PSL 10 schedule, the tournament, which began on 11 April, will continue until 18 May.
A total of 34 matches are scheduled across four cities. Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium is hosting 13 matches, including both Eliminators and the final.
Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium will stage 11 fixtures, including the first Qualifier on 13 May, while Multan and Karachi have hosted five matches each.
