ISLAMABAD: Islamabad United posted a competitive total of 158 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs against Quetta Gladiators in the 23rd match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 10 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Saturday.

Despite suffering early setbacks and losing wickets at regular intervals during the middle overs, United were able to rally, thanks largely to a composed innings by Mohammad Nawaz.

The left-hander anchored the effort with a crucial 49 off 34 balls, providing much-needed stability and aggression in the death overs.

His innings featured two powerful sixes, including a commanding slog sweep over midwicket off spinner Abrar Ahmed.

The innings had initially shown promise with Sahibzada Farhan setting the tone, scoring a brisk 39 off 24 balls. He got going early with an emphatic six over midwicket off Kyle Jamieson.

However, his dismissal while attempting a slog sweep – bowled by Saud Shakeel – marked the beginning of a stutter for United.

Faheem’s spell

Quetta’s bowlers made regular inroads, with Faheem Ashraf turning the tide significantly.

He struck twice in a single over, first removing Andries Gous with a delivery that nipped back sharply, and then inducing a loose shot from Muhammad Shahzad, who was caught brilliantly at extra cover by a diving Saud Shakeel.

Khurram Shahzad also played a key role in halting United’s momentum just as they looked to accelerate. His over was both economical and productive, claiming key wickets shortly after Haider Ali had lofted a stunning six over deep backward square leg.

Earlier in the innings, Colin Munro struggled to find rhythm, managing just 9 off 13 deliveries before edging a ball that seamed away, with Haseebullah Khan taking a fine diving catch behind the stumps.

Abrar Ahmed ended the powerplay on a high for Quetta, dismissing Kyle Mayers immediately after being hit for a six, demonstrating composure and control under pressure.

Quetta Gladiators will now look to chase down the 158-run target set by Islamabad United under lights at the Gaddafi Stadium.
