OSAKA: Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has allowed Saudi club Al Hilal to talk to star footballer Kylian Mbappe after tabling a 300-million-euro (333 million dollars) bid.

The Riyadh-based football club has made a formal offer by letter, but such a transfer could only be made with the deal of the concerned player, according to media reports.

Mbappe has one year left on his agreement with Paris Saint-Germain, who want him to quit now rather than in next summer.

The bid for the footballer would make him the most expensive player in football history, overtaking the 262 million dollars PSG paid for Brazilian Neymar, who joined from Barcelona in 2017.

Saudi Arabia’s recruitment drive

The offer shows Riyadh’s most ambitious step yet as part of a determined recruitment push to lure biggest players of football to the Kingdom.

After Purtagese star Cristiano Ronaldo agreed to join Al-Nassr in December last year, Saudi clubs have gone into overdrive by hitting leading names from the top leagues in Europe.

Real Madrid star and current Ballon d’Or holder Karim Benzema joined Saudi champion Al-Ittihad in June and has been accompanied by 2018 World Cup winner N’Golo Kante.
