HYDERABAD: The provincial Judo competitions, part of the Prime Minister Youth Talent Hunt Youth Sports League, have kicked off at Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tandojam, featuring athletes from five regions of Sindh. The competitions, catering to men, women, and children across various weight categories, are being hosted by SAU and backed by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Islamabad.
With participation from ten male and female teams representing regions including Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sukkur, Larkana, and Karachi, the event also includes children’s competitions.
The opening ceremony, led by Vice Chancellor Dr. Fateh Marri and Air Commodore Nayyer Qayum Khawaja (retd), Principal of SST Public School Rashidabad, marked the beginning of the event.
In the women’s open weight category, Saboor from Karachi secured the gold medal, while Maria from Hyderabad and Noor Fatima from Larkana clinched silver and bronze respectively. Meanwhile, Mehar Rehman emerged victorious in the men’s open weight category, followed by Khurram from Shaheed Benazirabad with silver and Muhammad Talal from Karachi with bronze.
Dr. Fateh Marri lauded the participation of women and children in such demanding sports, emphasizing its significance. Air Commodore Nayyer Qayum Khawaja (retd.) highlighted the role of sports activities in nurturing a healthier generation at Sindh Agriculture University. Director of Sports, Anwar Hassain Khanzada, provided insights into the sports activities to the attendees.
