Protests Against Inflated Electricity Bills Prompt PM to Call Emergency Meeting

ISLAMABAD: People in various parts of the country, for the second consecutive day, on Saturday expressed anger at the inflated electricity bills, with some suggesting even a civil disobedience campaign if the additional taxes weren’t removed, prompted Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq Kakar to call an emergency meeting to discuss the issue.

Kakar called an urgent meeting for tomorrow (Sunday) at the Prime Minister’s House over the severe reaction by the public nationwide.

The PM said on X today, “In the meeting, a briefing will be taken from the ministry of power and distribution companies, and consultations will be held regarding giving maximum relief to consumers regarding electricity bills.”
