JOHANNESBURG: As Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in South Africa to attend the BRICS summit, protest demonstrations condemning the ongoing oppression of Kashmiri people and persecution of Indian minorities by Hindutva forces were organized in various South African cities.
In South Africa’s capital Johannesburg, near the venue of the BRICS Summit, a protest demonstration was held on Wednesday. The event saw the participation of numerous human rights activists from South Asia, along with members of the media. Protestors carried banners with slogans such as “Free Kashmir,” “Release Yasin Malik,” and “Modi the Butcher of Gujarat.” They raised their voices against Modi’s policies and berated his actions as authoritarian.

Another protest rally took place in Johannesburg on Tuesday to express dissent against Modi’s presence. The protesters were carrying Kashmir flags and anti-Modi placards. In Durban, a significant number of human rights activists gathered near the Indian Consulate for a protest demonstration. They carried placards with powerful slogans like “India Implement UN Resolutions on Kashmir,” “India Stop Killing Minorities,” “From Kashmir to Palestine, Occupation is Crime,” and “Modi the Killer of Humanity.”
These demonstrations reflected the discontent and condemnation of Modi’s policies and actions, shedding light on the concerns of minority oppression and human rights violations.
