VANCOUVER: A historic Sikh referendum in Canada for an independent and sovereign Sikh state in northern India called Khalistan witnessed a record turnout as a large number of Sikh community members came to record their sentiments against the Indian government’s treatment toward the Sikh minority community.

Approximately 130,000 Sikhs exercised their right to vote in Vancouver city, organized under the supervision of the Punjab Referendum Commission and facilitated by Sikh For Justice (SFJ).

The streets of Vancouver were thronged with thousands of Sikh men and women who congregated to participate in the referendum and voice their concerns regarding India’s alleged involvement in ethnic cleansing and war crimes.

Polling commenced at 9 a.m. with the casting of votes by Hardeep Singh Nijhar’s parents. The atmosphere in Vancouver resonated with slogans for the creation of Khalistan in Canada. Long queues were witnessed as people lined up to cast their votes.

The event featured a passionate speech by Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the leader of Sikh For Justice, who articulated the sentiments of the Sikh community.

“Will Break India into Pieces”

Accusations of India’s complicity in ethnic cleansing and war crimes were vehemently expressed by the Sikh participants, with a resounding message that Sikhs will never forget or forgive these alleged actions. Moreover, the event emphasized the rejection of India’s sovereignty and Hindutva ideology by the Sikh community. Gurpatwant Singh Pannun passionately stated, “We will break India into pieces.”

Participation in the referendum underscored the Sikh community’s desire for an independent and sovereign Khalistan, a sentiment strongly articulated by Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. He reaffirmed the commitment to pursue their goals through legal means.

The event also shed light on accusations against India’s secret agencies and diplomats, whom Sikhs claim to be involved in the killing of Navjot Singh. Gurpatwant Singh Pannun asserted that India’s actions amounted to a declaration of war.

Khalistan Referendum Voiced Sikhs Aspirations

In this historic Sikh referendum, the community voiced their aspirations for a peaceful and independent Khalistan, underscoring their determination to pursue these goals through legal and democratic channels.

The Sikh community expressed that India cannot stop the Sikh movement, no matter what, and regarded Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as an enemy of Muslims, Sikhs, and other minorities.
