ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed Google’s decision to establish offices and launch an assembly line for its products in Pakistan, describing it as a strong expression of confidence in the country’s investment climate and pro-digital policies.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on Friday, Google’s move to set up a manufacturing facility in Haripur reflects the success of the government’s strategy to promote ease of doing business and encourage global technology firms to invest in Pakistan. “International IT companies such as Google are recognising the government’s consistent efforts to make Pakistan a hub of digital innovation and economic growth,” the Prime Minister said.

He added that local production of IT equipment will reduce costs for Pakistani consumers while enabling the country to expand exports and strengthen its foreign exchange reserves. “The local assembly of Google’s devices will not only make technology affordable for our people but also help build an export-oriented technology industry,” he stated.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed his government’s commitment to transforming Pakistan into a digital nation, highlighting initiatives that aim to empower youth through digital literacy and entrepreneurship. He noted that the government’s partnership with Google to train Pakistani youth in IT skills is part of a broader plan to create sustainable employment opportunities and align education with future technologies.

“The government is taking every possible measure to empower the youth, particularly in the IT sector,” he said. “The memorandum of understanding signed with Google for training programs is another milestone in this journey.”

Shehbaz Sharif also praised the Ministry of Information Technology and its team for their contributions toward advancing the digital economy, citing their work in connecting Pakistani talent to global service industries. The Prime Minister reaffirmed that his administration is determined to make Pakistan a regional hub for information technology through ongoing reforms, incentives, and infrastructure development.
