ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif departed for Bahrain on Wednesday for a two-day official visit from November 26–27, aimed at strengthening political, economic, and security cooperation between the two countries.

According to the Foreign Office (FO), the trip underscores the “longstanding and multifaceted relationship between the two brotherly countries.”

The prime minister is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, several federal ministers, and senior officials.

During his stay in Manama, the Prime Minister is scheduled to hold high-level meetings with Bahrain’s leadership to expand collaboration in trade, investment, energy, technology, education, and culture.

The Foreign Office said the visit is expected to reinforce traditionally warm ties, open new avenues of partnership, and deepen people-to-people linkages.

“This official visit underscores Pakistan’s continued engagement with the Kingdom of Bahrain, aimed at fostering a results-oriented and strategic partnership between the two countries,” the Foreign Office added.

The visit follows renewed momentum in Pakistan-Bahrain relations earlier this year. In July, both nations agreed to intensify cooperation in counter-terrorism, anti-human trafficking, and narcotics control during a meeting between Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Bahraini Interior Minister General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa in Manama.

The two sides had also reviewed efforts to strengthen the Pakistan-Bahrain Joint Security Committee to address regional and global security challenges.

Bahrain’s interior minister had described Naqvi’s visit as a valuable opportunity to deepen security collaboration and praised the current level of coordination between the two countries.

More than 120,000 Pakistanis live in Bahrain and contribute to the Gulf state’s economy, serving as a bridge in bilateral relations.
