ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Caretaker, Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, held a crucial meeting with the Ministry of Commerce to address pressing issues related to trade and smuggling.

During the meeting, several strategic measures were discussed to bolster the country’s export sector and combat the smuggling issues in the country.

The Prime Minister was presented with a comprehensive overview of approved measures designed to stimulate the growth of the nation’s exports. These initiatives aim to fortify the economic landscape and enhance the country’s global trade presence.

In addition to export-focused discussions, the briefing delved into practical steps proposed by the Ministry of Commerce to effectively tackle the issue of smuggling within the country’s borders. The government is actively exploring viable solutions to curb illicit trade activities. The establishment of an organized border monitoring system was discussed as a means to tighten security and regulate cross-border trade.

Furthermore, recommendations were made to augment the screening and inspection procedures for commercial goods, ensuring the quality and legitimacy of products entering and exiting the country.

Afghanistan Transit Trade and Smuggling Challenges

The meeting assessed various facets of trade under the Afghanistan Transit Trade Agreement. This evaluation sought to identify opportunities for further cooperation and economic development. Multiple initiatives aimed at boosting trade were explored, with a specific focus on deterring smuggling activities.
