On the sidelines of the New Global Financial Pact summit held in Paris, France, Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has a meeting with Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Both sides exchange views on ongoing IMF programs with Pakistan and economic assistance for Pakistan from the IMF was also came under discussion.
Recalling their latest telephone talk on 27 May 2023, the Prime Minister of Pakistan informed Ms. Georgieva on Pakistan’s position and its key economic issues. The Prime Minister delineated the government’s actions for economic progress and fiscal sustainability. He emphasized that all preceding actions for the 9th Review under the Enhanced Fund (EFF) have long been accomplished and the Government of Pakistan is totally dedicated and committed to in achieving its pledges and steps decided with the fund.
The Prime Minister showed optimism that the funds allocated under the IMF’s EFF would be disbursed as early as possible because the program is ending on June 30. It would help reinforce Pakistan’s current economic stabilization efforts and bring relief for its masses.
The Executive Director of the IMF shared her organization’s standpoint on the continuing assessment process. The meeting provided a valuable prospect to analyze developments in this regard.
