ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) Chairman Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf has expressed his concerns that the prices of chicken, could reach Rs1,000 per kilogram in the coming days due to a shortage of feed.

Talking to a private television channel here on Friday, Ashraf said the situation became more worrisome when over a dozen containers carrying 750,000 tons of soybean and canola have been stuck at the seaport, adding that despite payments the containers were still not released sighting technical issues from the government.

At present, the price of broiler chicken is hovering in the range of Rs500-600 per kg in Karachi.

Talking about the available stock he said that they have the capacity to stock and supply for 15 days or a month, however, that has been realized now and they are waiting for soybean and canola.

He warned that if the two items were not available on time, it will create problems for feed makers who have already communicated to the farmers about the shortage of the product.

He further said that in such a situation one would see a massive shortage of chicken in the market, resulting in a massive increase in its price that may reach to Rs1,000 per kg.
