ISLAMABAD: Health experts have urged parents to monitor the behavioural changes of their children by observing economic constraints, hectic routines, habits, mental pressure, and unfavourable relationships to prevent drug abuse in children.
Talking to APP on Saturday, Clinical Psychologist Mariam Riaz said that male and female youngsters get into drug addiction anytime. For early prevention, parents should monitor their children’s mood swings and company.
She said that parents should get alarmed if the children spend unusual time in bathrooms or outside the house, look annoyed, or ignore their hygiene. Parents who have doubts about their children’s drug addiction should check and monitor their friend circle, internet search history, and telephonic conversations.
Health experts’ advice
Clinical Psychologist Shamsheer Hayat explained the treatment: “With the help of therapies, monitoring of patients, and counseling, the drug addiction can be completely cured. Parents or guardians should seek help from a registered rehabilitation center for the cure and treatment.”
He said a team of psychiatrists, medical specialists, and clinical psychologists monitor the patient’s health, after which, as the first phase of treatment, the detoxification process is started. He said that patients at the rehabilitation center are delivered counseling sessions and cognitive behavioral therapies for three months. To avoid slippery situations, the patients are equipped with the techniques when they go into their normal lives.
He said that to strengthen their belief and willpower, the patients are advised to abide the religious practices. “Drug addiction should be treated like any other disease. If the patients are not treated on time, the consistent use of drugs would damage the body’s vital organs and lead to death,” he noted. — APP
