ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari, accompanied by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, visited the residence of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman in Islamabad to discuss the country’s political situation.
Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, along with the senior leadership of his party, warmly welcomed President Zardari. On the occasion, Maulana Fazl also embraced Interior Minister Naqvi.
Local media reports say that President Zardari is seeking to gain the support of the JUI-F leadership for upcoming parliamentary legislation. A joint session of Parliament has been scheduled for Monday.
Furthermore, a delegation from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), led by Barrister Gohar, met with Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman the previous day.
During their meeting, they formed a committee to address differences and discuss the proposed new legislation by the government.
Earlier today, President Asif Ali Zardari summoned sessions for both houses of the bicameral parliament.
The National Assembly is scheduled to meet on August 26 (Monday) at 5:00 p.m., and the Senate will be held on August 27 (Tuesday) at the same time.
The sessions are being called in accordance with the powers granted by clause (1) of Article 54 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
According to the National Assembly Secretariat, this will be the 9th session of the 16th National Assembly.
Local media reports suggest that the ruling coalition may introduce significant legislation during a joint session of parliament, which could be convened by the president next week.
