JOHANNESBURG: Chinese President Xi Jinping has said that Beijing will continue to support Cuba in defending national sovereignty and opposing outside interference and barriers, Chinese media reported on Wednesday.
President Xi Promises Beijing’s Continuous Support for Cuba
President Xi expressed these remarks during a meeting with his Cuban counterpart President Miguel Diaz-Canel on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in South Africa. Xi said that Beijing will try its best to support Cuba’s social and economic development. He said that with the joint efforts of the two countries, the consensus is being successfully executed.
He said that Beijing lauds Cuba’s steadfast support for his country in issues concerning its main interests. The Chinese leader said that his country attaches great significance to supporting Cuba in successfully organizing the G-77 and China Summit in the upcoming month, Xi stated.
On his part, Cuba President Diaz-Canel said that the two sides are sincerely executing the significant consensus reached by the two sides. He further said that Cuba supports the Global Development Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative recommended by President Xi. He added that they are ready to work with Beijing to deepen Belt and Road cooperation.
