BEIJING: Chinese President Xi Jinping has said that in this turbulent and changing world, countries need solidarity and coordination, not confrontation or division.

Xi said this during a meeting with the U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Thursday.

He added that people of the two countries want openness and progress, not exclusion or regress. The Chinese president noted as the two major countries, China and the United States should be a source of stability for global peace and a propeller for common development.

He said while great changes have taken place in the two nations countries China is committed to the goal of a stable, healthy and sustainable relationship with the US.

XI stated the principle of handling the relationship should be based on mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation.

He said China’s position of firmly safeguarding the country’s security, sovereignty, and development interests remains unchanged, and its efforts to carry forward the traditional friendship between the Chinese and American people remain unchanged.

Xi expressed the hope that the U.S. side will work with China in the same direction and view China and its development in a positive way. He said the US must view the development of China as an opportunity rather than a challenge, and work with China to find a right way for two major countries to get along.
