ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday called upon all provincial governments and stakeholders to collaborate in combatting the spread of malaria in the country.

In his message marking World Malaria Day, observed annually on April 25th to raise awareness and tackle challenges associated with the disease, the president underscored the importance of prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of malaria.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to delivering comprehensive healthcare services and reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to implementing new initiatives under the Global Malaria Programme.

President Zardari highlighted the critical need for testing, confirming, and standardizing treatment protocols for all suspected malaria cases. He expressed satisfaction over the Ministry of National Health’s concerted efforts in addressing malaria through the Common Management Unit Malaria, which has adopted a comprehensive strategy.

However, Zardari also lamented a notable surge in malaria cases across various regions of the country, attributing it to the devastating floods of 2022.   —APP
