ALGEIRS, Algeria: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reiterated his strong stance against Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip, labelling the country as a “terror state.”
Speaking at the Algeria-Turkiye Business Forum during his visit to Algiers, Erdogan expressed Turkiye’s firm opposition to Israel’s policy of depopulating Gaza. He emphasized that Turkiye cannot accept Israel’s continuous occupation, land seizure, and oppression of the Palestinian people, particularly in Gaza.
Erdogan condemned the recent attacks on Gaza, highlighting the tragic loss of Palestinian lives and characterizing Israel’s actions as war crimes and crimes against humanity. He called on the international community to hold Israeli leaders accountable for their actions, urging for sanctions against those responsible.
In addition to addressing the Gaza situation, Erdogan raised concerns about Israel’s nuclear capabilities, challenging Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to clarify the country’s stance on atomic weapons. Erdogan announced Turkiye’s intention to take the matter to international forums, including the UN Security Council and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The Turkish president stressed the need for Israel to face consequences for its actions and called for international support in ensuring that such atrocities do not occur again. He asserted that Netanyahu should be referred to the International Criminal Court (ICC) for the alleged crimes committed by Israel.
Amid discussions on the Israel-Palestine conflict, Erdogan also highlighted the positive momentum in bilateral relations between Turkiye and Algeria. He noted the record trade volume of $5.3 billion in 2022 and expressed optimism about reaching $6 billion by the year-end. Erdogan underscored the significance of Turkish-Algerian economic cooperation, emphasizing the contributions of Turkish companies operating in Algeria and welcoming Algerian investments in Turkey.
As Erdogan concluded his visit to Algeria, he reaffirmed Turkiye’s commitment to fostering strong ties with Algeria and reiterated the country’s role in facilitating economic growth and employment in both nations.
