ISLAMABAD: Pakistan President Dr. Arif Alvi has accorded his approval to the appointment of Justice Mohammad Ibrahim Khan as the Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday.
The president approved Mohammad Ibrahim Khan’s appointment as Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court under Article 175 A (13) of the Constitution, said a press release from the President Secretariat Press Wing on Tuesday.
Justice Mohammad Ibrahim Khan, the senior most Judge, was previously working as the acting chief justice of the Peshawar High Court. The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) had recommended Justice Mohammad Ibrahim Khan, as a regular chief justice of the high court during a meeting chaired by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial.
PHC Chief Justice Promoted to SC
Earlier, President Arif Alvi had sanctioned the promotion of Chief Justice (CJ) of the Peshawar High Court, Justice Musarrat Hilali, to the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan.
Justice Musarrat Hilali holds the distinction of being the first woman from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to attain the position of an apex court judge, and only the second woman in the country’s history to be elevated to the Supreme Court.
President Arif Alvi also approved the appointment of Justice Qazi Faez Isa as the next Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP). Justice Faez Isa will resume his office upon retirement of current Justice Umar Ata Bandial as Chief Justice on September 17 next month.
