ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi welcoming the ruling of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the prevention of the crime of genocide in the Gaza strip, termed it an outstanding judgment, a President House statement said on Friday.
The president called upon Israel to immediately stop the bloodshed and the genocide of the innocent civilians in Gaza.
He appreciated the court’s ruling asking Israel to fulfill its obligations under the Genocide Convention towards Palestinians in Gaza by taking necessary measures.
The ICJ also asked Israel to prevent the commission of all acts within the scope of Article II of the Genocide Convention, and ensure basic services and humanitarian aid to the Palestinians in Gaza.
The president added that the ruling had exposed the barbarism and inhuman acts being committed by Israel, adding that Israel had crossed all boundaries of humanity by targeting children, women and hospitals.
The president asked the global community and other bodies of the United Nations, particularly the Security Council, to take steps for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and stop Israel from committing further bloodshed in Palestine.
President Alvi appreciated the bold stance of South Africa by taking Israel to International Court of Justice to hold it accountable for its crimes in Gaza.
