President Alvi for Improving Quality of Education, Introducing Uniform Syllabi

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi on Monday underscored the need to improve the quality of medical education and introduce uniform syllabi to establish an education standard in medicine field.

Chairing the fifth meeting of the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University, Islamabad (SZABMU), at Aiwan-e-Sadr, President Alvi said medical institutions needed to produce more para-medical staff and nursing to cater to the health needs of the country.

SZABMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Tanwir Khaliq, faculty members, and members of the Senate attended the meeting.

Addressing the meeting, President Alvi emphasized the need to develop collaborations with foreign universities for access to foreign courses and educational content through online education.

The president said establishing collaborations and linkages with foreign universities were the fastest way to improve the country’s education quality.

President Alvi calls for preventing diseases

He also called for focusing on preventing diseases that were far easier and cheaper than curative treatment and would also help reduce the disease burden on Pakistan’s health infrastructure.

He said SZABMU should be an exemplary institution and role model for others in the medical sector. He said that medical institutions should also focus on teaching the spirit of serving humanity among their graduates.

The SZABMU vice-chancellor briefed President Alvi about the initiatives taken by the university to promote medical education.

The meeting endorsed the minutes of the fourth Senate meeting held on March 18, 2022. The meeting also approved the appointment of two deans, Prof Dr Moosa Khan and Prof Dr Rana Imran Sikandar, as syndicate members under the SZABMU Act 2013.
