President Alvi Calls for Increased Cooperation with Iran, Romania

ISLAMABAD:  President Dr. Arif Alvi has stressed for increasing cooperation with Romania and Iran in all areas of mutual interest.

The president expressed these views during separate meetings the ambassadors of both countries, who called on him, at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Thursday.

Talking to the outgoing Iranian ambassador Seyed Mohammad Ali Hosseini, the President said that Pakistan greatly valued its fraternal ties with Iran as both brotherly nations shared historical linkages and cultural affinities, as well as having commonalities of views on issues of regional and international importance.

He stressed the need for increasing economic cooperation and boosting the trade volume for the mutual benefit of the two nations. He also underlined the atrocities being committed by the Indian security forces against innocent Muslims in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and other parts of India.

He said that Muslims were being isolated and persecuted in India and the Muslim World should take notice of the Indian government’s brutalities against Muslims.

The President expressed his gratitude for the Iranian government for its stance and support on the Kashmir issue.

While commending the landmark initiative taken by Iran and Saudi Arabia to normalize diplomatic ties, President Alvi said that the normalization of ties between the two nations would lead to peace and stability in the Middle East.

The meeting also underlined the need for increasing counter-terrorism cooperation to eliminate the menace of terrorism.

Ambassador Seyed Mohammad Ali Hosseini highlighted the need for enhancing economic, political, and cultural cooperation between the two countries.

He said that both nations had great potential to further increase economic cooperation. He said that both sides had agreed to construct 6 border markets that would increase bilateral trade.

The envoy apprised the President on the current electricity transmission projects that would help to improve the power structure in Balochistan.

President Alvi appreciated the contribution of the outgoing envoy for promoting bilateral cooperation.

 Romania ambassador

In his separate meeting with the Ambassador of Romania to Pakistan Nicolae GOIA, President Alvi said that Romania was an important nation in Eastern Europe and Pakistan desired to strengthen its relationship with Romania in the fields of economy and trade.

He expressed his gratitude for the Romanian government for its support in granting and continuation of GSP plus status for Pakistan.

Both sides underlined the need for improving economic ties and undertaking regular interactions and exchanges at the highest levels to further cement bilateral relations.

The envoy conveyed the gratitude of the Romanian president for the support provided by Pakistan in evacuation of Romanian citizens from Afghanistan during August/September 2021.
