ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi emphasized the importance of addressing poverty alleviation, education, and preventive health to bring about real change in Pakistan and protect the rights of marginalized communities.
He spoke at a ceremony organized by the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICC), urging the strengthening of the country’s foundation and the resolution of fundamental issues like education and health to propel Pakistan towards further progress and prosperity.
During his speech, he underlined the significance of effective decision-making and efficient policy implementation across the economic and social sectors. Drawing inspiration from Korea’s success in the 1960s, where the country adopted the policies of Pakistan’s esteemed economist Dr. Mehboob ul Haq, President urged Pakistan to learn from past shortcomings and translate words into concrete actions to flourish economically.
President Alvi Emphasizes Importance of Wealth Circulation
While acknowledging the role of investments in the real estate sector, President Alvi emphasized the importance of ensuring that wealth circulation remains active to benefit the people through gainful employment, thereby promoting equitable distribution of wealth. Alvi also highlighted the concept of a nation-state and its flaws in certain European countries, contrasting it with Pakistan’s identity as an Islamic democratic state.
He urged the nation to be guided by the principles of the Quran, Sunnah, and opinions of religious scholars and communities. He urged Pakistanis to inculcate the fear of Allah, adopt values of honesty, piety, and share their earnings with the needy and vulnerable in society.
Expressing concern for the large number of out-of-school children, the President stressed the need to protect the rights of persons with disabilities and promote women’s empowerment. Quoting Quaid-e-Azam, he emphasized that women’s progress is a critical pillar for Pakistan’s advancement. The President said that Islam was the first religion that gave women the right to inheritance.
In conclusion, President Alvi urged Pakistan to focus on self-reliance rather than relying on foreign aid.
President of ICCI, Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari, also spoke to the gathering and brought attention to the challenges encountered by the business community.
Prior to his speech, he presented recognition shields to the former vice presidents of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI).
