President Alvi Asks PM, Governors to Support Breast Cancer Awareness Drive

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi has written letters to Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar, caretaker ministers, governors, and caretaker chief ministers seeking their cooperation over breast cancer awareness campaign and wearing of pink ribbon during October.

The president also sent letters to the President and Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), senators, and governor and chief minister of Gilgit Baltistan (GB) in this regard, President Secretariat said in a press release on Wednesday.

He said that the month of October was dedicated every year to raising awareness about breast cancer.

President Alvi observed that their cooperation over public awareness would produce tangible results.

President Emphasizes Awareness

He said that with public awareness, they could play their parts in transforming a well-aware and healthy society.

The president said that breast cancer in Pakistan caused nearly 40,000 deaths every year, which was the highest ratio in Asia. Delayed diagnosis was the main reason for these deaths. Awareness about self-examination could save many lives, he added.
