ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President Dr Arif Alvi has approved remission in sentences for prisoners on the occasion of Eid ul Fitr, the President office said on Tuesday. The statement said that President Alvi approved the remission of 3 months in exercise of the Article 45 of the country’s constitution.

As per the office of the President, the relief will be provided to male aged prisoners, who have already completed their one-third sentence. The reduction will be applied to the women prisoners above 60 years, who have completed their one-third punishment. As per the statement of the president’s office the prisoners under the age of eighteen, who have already completed their one-third punishment, would also be eligible for availing the relief.
However, the relief will not apply to those convicted of capital punishment, rape, espionage, anti-state activities, terrorism, and kidnapping incurring loss to national exchequer, robbery and financial crimes.
