President Accords Emigration (Amendment) Bill, 2023

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan President Dr. Arif Alvi has accorded his assent to the Emigration (Amendment) Bill, 2023, earlier passed by parliament.

The press release issued from the Presidency on Tuesday stated that President Arif Alvi had approved the bill, exercising the powers conferred upon him under Article 75 of the Constitution.

Yesterday, the President accorded approval to four bills related to money laundering, Financing of Terrorism, and safety investigation.

According to a press release issued here by the President Secretariat Press Wing, Dr Alvi approved the National Logistics Corporation Bill, 2023, which provided the establishment of the Corporation.

Another bill the president granted approval for was the Pakistan Air Safety Investigation Bill, 2023. The purpose of the legislation in the context of the bill was to improve investigations into air and travel incidents.

President Approves Anti-Money Laundering Bill

President Dr Arif Alvi signed the Anti Money Laundering and Counter Terror Financing Bill, 2023, to activate the National Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Financing of Terrorism Authority.

The Gun and Country Club Bill, 2023 also get a green signal from the president.

On August 3, the Pakistan President approved five more bills following their passage by the country’s parliament the other day.

Among the bills, the president signed the Defense Housing Authority Islamabad (Amendment) Bill 2023, which aims to amend the Defense Housing Authority Islamabad Act of 2013.

Furthermore, President Alvi assented to the Petroleum (Amendment) Bill 2023, which seeks to amend the Petroleum Act of 1934.

The Pakistan Nursing Council (Amendment) Bill 2023, provides amendments to the Pakistan Nursing Council Act of 1973, the Board of Investment (Amendment) Bill, secured President assent.

Moreover, the Pakistan General Cosmetics Bill 2023 was signed into law by the president. This bill aims to regulate the sale, purchase, quality, packaging, manufacturing, storage, and distribution of cosmetics.

President Alvi exercised his powers under Article 75 of the Constitution to endorse these bills.

On Wednesday, the President also approved two key bills — The qanun-e-Shahadat (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and Control of Narcotics Substances (Amendment) Bill, 2023 bill.

Record Legislation by Pakistan’s Parliament

It is noteworthy to mention that the National Assembly of the Parliament has swiftly adopted 53 bills within just two days, sparking strong criticism from the opposition. The opposition members blamed the government for not providing them with copies of the bills before their passage.

On last Thursday, July 27, the National Assembly managed to pass 24 bills, and the following day, Friday, an additional 29 bills were passed, raising concerns over the pace and transparency of the legislative process.
