FRANKFURT: NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has warned there will be no rapid end to the war in Ukraine. He made the remarks during an interview with German media on Sunday. His comments come as Ukraine pushes on with its counterattack against Russia. He told the German media that most wars last longer than anticipated when they first start. He said they should make themselves up for a long war in Ukraine.
Prepare for Long Fighting in Ukraine: NATO Secretary General
The war began in Feb 2022 when Russia sent its troops into Ukraine, bringing conflict back to Europe for the first time in decades.
Ukraine launched its counteroffensive in June, pushing back against Russian positions in the south and east, but it has made little gains. The NATO chief said that they were all wishing for rapid peace. He said that they should realize that Ukraine will no longer exist if Zelensky and the citizens of Ukraine stop fighting. Jens Stoltenberg said, “If Putin and Russia put down their arms, we will have peace.”
