LAHORE: Syed Hassan Murtaza, Former PPP Central Punjab General Secretary, on Sunday stressed a democratic solution to inflation and other national challenges, saying that institutions and the judiciary might not effectively address these problems.
Addressing a media conference at the PPP Central Punjab Secretariat, he sought cooperation from the Punjab government to help the flood-hit areas in the province.
He also urged for holding of general elections on the basis of the existing constituencies if the number of parliamentary seats was not going to increase post-census. He expressed concern over the alarming situation of Pakistan, referring to a historical mistake committed in 1985, and advocating for polls within 90 days, in line with the Constitution.
PPP to Fully Participate in Elections
Murtaza said the PPP would fully participate in the upcoming polls and denied allegations of supporting polls delay.
Murtaza called for all political groups to engage in polls, with a central executive committee meeting planned in Lahore to discuss preparations.
A PPP delegation would interact with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) about election matters. Murtaza underlined the PPP’s commitment to democracy.
