Population Count: Over 239.8m Enumerated till May 2

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) said Wednesday that during the ongoing 7th population and household census, 239,782,259 people have been enumerated nationwide as of May 2.

 

According to the official data, the enumeration process will continue till May 15, and all the relevant authorities have been directed to complete their task within the stipulated time. It said that 117,039,724 had been enumerated in Punjab, 55,156,940 in Sindh, 20,259,829 in Balochistan, and 39,408,562 in KP.

 

It is claimed that out of a total of 156 districts, 100 percent of work has been finished in 122 districts, while 90 percent of work in the remaining districts has been done so far, adding that work will continue in big cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi and Karachi till May 15.

 

According to PBS, the yearly population growth rate between 2017 and 2023 was 1.92 per cent based on the number of people counted until the end of April. This rate will likely rise after the remaining uncounted population is included.

 

Bureau added that the overall growth rate decreased from 2.38 per cent annually between the 1998 and 2017 censuses.

 

It said that as per the directives of the Prime Minister, complaint centres had been established at the Tehsil level, and people could contact them in case of any complaint, adding that PBS can also be contacted directly at the toll-free number 0800-57574. — APP
