ISLAMABAD: World’s richest person and Senior Adviser to the US President, Elon Musk, reacting to a social media post highlighting plummeting birth rates in European countries, underlined the gravity of the situation.
Musk, who is have been married thrice and have 14 children through his marriages and relationships, posted on X: “Population collapse is a massive crisis”.

The post, the Tesla CEO was reacting too, was posted by Tesla Owners Silicon Valley, which stated: “Birth rates are plummeting in a lot of countries. Population collapse is the greatest threat to civilization. Change needs to happen to save humanity.”

The graph shared along the post shows drastically plummeting birth rates in France, Germany, Finland, Italy, Spain and European Union (EU) with National Statistics Office, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), as the source of data.
According to eurostat, in 2023, 3.67 million babies were born in the EU, a 5.4 per cent decrease from the 3.88 million in 2022. This was the largest annual decline recorded since 1961.
The total fertility rate in 2023 was 1.38 live births per woman in the EU, down from 1.46 in 2022.
