ISLAMABAD: Pope Leo has called for an end to the “roar of the bombs” in the Middle East, appealing for peace, dialogue, and humanitarian relief in a region grappling with escalating conflict and civilian suffering, according to Vatican News

During his weekly general audience, the pontiff expressed concern for communities affected by recent military actions, emphasising that the protection of civilians must be a priority.

He urged international leaders to pursue dialogue over force and to work collaboratively to address the humanitarian needs of those displaced by hostilities.

“May the roar of the bombs cease, and may hearts open to dialogue and reconciliation,” the Pope said, calling on people of all faiths and nations to support efforts toward stability and lasting peace.

The Pope’s remarks coincide with intensified military clashes in the region involving multiple state actors, which have resulted in casualties and infrastructure damage in several areas.

Religious leaders and international organisations have repeatedly urged restraint and humanitarian access amid the conflict.

Vatican officials stated that the pontiff’s message was meant to transcend political divides, focusing on universal human dignity, alleviating human suffering, and the urgent need for peaceful resolution of disputes.

The Pope has regularly addressed conflicts worldwide, advocating diplomacy and solidarity with vulnerable populations, and continues to appeal for international cooperation to resolve the crises affecting the Middle East.

Pope Leo XIV is the head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of Vatican City.

He is the first pope to have been born in the United States, the first to hold either US or Peruvian citizenship, the first from the Order of Saint Augustine, and the second from the Americas.
