VATICAN CITY: The Vatican said on Friday that Pope Francis is likely to leave the hospital on Saturday, awaiting the results of his recent medical tests, and is scheduled to attend Sunday service. The pope was taken to Gemelli hospital in Rome two days ago following complaining of breathing problems. The medical team said that the Pope was diagnosed with bronchitis and has been treated well with an infusion of antibiotics.

Vatican spokesperson Matteo Bruni said that if Pope does indeed return home on Saturday, he would also attend the following day in service for Sunday — a key event in the Church calendar that starts Easter week celebrations.
The dean of the college of cardinals has said that they would assist the pope during the week’s celebrations and take care of duties. The pope has suffered several illnesses in recent years as he was last hospitalized in July 2021. The Pope tweeted that the trials and difficulties of life serve to purify their hearts, making them humbler.
