Pollen Count Soars in Islamabad, Rawalpindi

ISLAMABAD: As mercury continues to rise during the spring season in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, the concentration of pollen has started to escalate, posing serious challenge for the residents suffering from allergies.

According to the meteorological experts the pollen levels are expected to continue rising in the coming days, with the peak concentration likely during the last week of March.

During the current weather conditions over the next two weeks, the intensity of pollen concentration is anticipated to spike significantly. Individuals suffering from pollen allergies are advised to take precautionary measures to lesson symptoms and minimize exposure.

Residents in Islamabad are expressing mounting concerns as the pollen season sets in, reporting allergic reactions such as flue, coughing, watery eyes, irritated throats, and mild headaches.

The most prevalent pollen types in Islamabad include Acacia, Alternaria, Cannabis, Dandelion, Eucalyptus, Grasses, Paper Mulberry and Pines. Among these species, Paper Mulberry contributes to approximately 97 percent of the total pollen count. During the peak of the spring season, its concentration can reach to extreme levels of around 45,000 particles per cubic meter of air.

Residents of the twin cities are advised to stay updated about pollen estimates and take essential measures to protect their health during this heightened pollen activity.
