ISLAMABAD: Federal Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said on Thursday that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has decided to appoint Lt-Gen Asim Munir as the next Army Chief and Lt-Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, by using his constitutional authority.

Political leaders and federal ministers lauded the decision of the federal government to appoint the new Chief of Army Staff and the Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff Committee of the country.
Talking to the media in Islamabad, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said that the decision to appoint the new Chief of Army Staff Lt-Gen Asim Munir, and the Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff Committee Lt-Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza was taken as per merit and law. He hoped that the President will endorse the decision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
In a tweet, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar praised the decision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and said that the Prime Minister’s decision to appoint the new Army Chief and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee on seniority-cum-merit is praiseworthy.
A leader of PTI Shibli Faraz said that his party will not create any hurdles in the process of the appoint of the new COAS in the country. He said that the process of the appointment should be as per the law and constitution of the country.
