Polish Opposition Party Leader Declares Victory
If the election result forecast by an exit poll holds, Law and Justice party won but also lost. The exit poll showed that Law and Justice party obtained 200 seats while its potential partner, the far-right Confederation taken 12 seats, a showing the party recognized was a defeat.
The poll also suggested that three opposition political parties have likely won total 248 seats in the 460-seat lower house of the country’s parliament. The largest of the parties is Civic Coalition, led by Tusk, ex-PM and former EU president. It has won 31.6% of votes, the poll suggested.
Tusk told his supporters that Poland and Democracy have won as they have removed them from power of the country.
Tusk said that this outcome might still be good, but already today they can say this is the end of the bad era, this is end of Law and Justice party’s rule.
On the other hand, Law and Justice leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski admitted the ambiguous outcome. Jaroslaw Kaczynski told his supporters at his main office that his party’s result, at about 37% of the vote, according to the poll, was a win, making it the party to win the most votes for three parliamentary polls in a row.
