WARSAW: In an effort to address the concerns raised by the “Deceived Village” movement, the Polish government, represented by Minister of Agriculture Cheslav Sekersky, has signed an agreement with farmers, temporarily halting the blockade of the Medyka border crossing point with Ukraine.
The accord includes commitments from the Minister of Agriculture to meet various demands, such as providing subsidies for corn, increasing funding by 2.5 billion zlotys, and maintaining the agricultural tax at the 2023 level.
Voivode Teresa Kubas-Gul of the Subcarpathian Voivodeship announced the agreement, emphasizing that this is part of an ongoing dialogue with farmers to collaboratively address challenges within the agricultural sector. The agreement does not specify a fixed timeframe for the suspension of the blockade but aims to facilitate legal changes during this period.
The “Deceived Village” movement initiated the blockade on November 23, 2023, and despite a temporary suspension on December 24, the protest resumed on January 4. The signing of this agreement aims to create a conducive environment for resolving the issues raised by the farmers.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Radosław Sikorski, has urged Western countries to provide Ukraine with long-range missiles for strikes against Russia. Sikorski emphasized the need to enhance sanctions against Russia and support Ukraine’s defensive capabilities.
