Polio Campaign to Begin in Sindh from Next Week

KARACHI: A seven-day anti-polio campaign is scheduled to start on Monday in Sindh, with the goal of vaccinating over 10.6 million children throughout the province, local media reported on Saturday.

The provincial task force dedicated to polio eradication convened a meeting in Karachi to review and finalize all logistical and operational details for campaign.

Local media reported cited health sources on January 21 as confirming the troubling discovery of poliovirus in sewage samples from Balochistan’s Lasbela district. These samples tested positive specifically for Type-1 Wild Poliovirus (WPV1), indicating a concerning spread of the virus.

Furthermore, genetic analysis of the virus extracted from these samples revealed a significant connection to Gadap Karachi, highlighting how polio transmission spans across regions. This emphasizes the importance of coordinated efforts to combat the disease.

The aim of the campaign is curb to complete eradicate polio from the country. Experts said that all sections of society should play their role to create awareness about the decease.
