PESHAWAR: Police in Swat on Monday apprehended two terrorists linked with the outlawed outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) from Swat.

Addressing a press briefing, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police (IGP) Akhtar Hayyat Khan said the police have rounded up two TTP terrorists named Rafiullah, aka Jawad and Asmatullah from Swat.

IGP said that every year, attempts from a ‘neighbouring country’ are made to sabotage law and order in Swat.

Providing details about the arrest of TTP terrorists, he said that police started an operation on information about the presence of operatives on 23 May in Buner.

He said that in a terrorist attack, a citizen was martyred, and a jawan of Elite Force, Waqar Khan, had been wounded.

He said the terrorist outfit was active in the Manglaore and Charbagh areas of the Swat district.

Asmatullah, the terrorists’ facilitator, was involved in providing safe passage to the TTP workers.

Terrorists Return After Formation of TTP Swat Group

He added that the terrorist Rafiullah, along with his family, had shifted to Afghanistan in 2012 and returned to Pakistan last year after the creation of the TTP Swat group.

IGP said that both terrorists had been apprehended in an intelligence-based operation while further investigation from them was underway to catch their accomplices.
