ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Police said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s spokesperson Raoof Hasan have been arrested for operating a social media cell allegedly involved in running anti-state propaganda.
Barrister Gohar stated that he went along with Rauf Hasan to the Police Lines, however, police said since the PTI chairman was not wanted in any case so he could leave for home. Gohar stated that the PTI information secretary was detained in the Police Lines.
Earlier, local media reported and PTI claimed that Police arrested PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Information Secretary Raoof Hassan on Monday in a raid on the party’s secretariat.
Barrister Gohar not Arrested: Police
Rebutting the PTI’s claim, sources within the Islamabad Police stated that they have only detained, not arrested. They added that Barrister Gohar had not been taken into custody. Police said that Gohar was questioned but he has not been arrested. After reports pertaining to the arrest of the PTI leaders surfaced, police officials clarified that they only arrested Rauf Hasan during a raid on the ground of evidence.
“The PTI digital media centre had become a centre of global disinformation, from where anti-Pakistan propaganda is run across the world,” said police.
