LAHORE: The 27th death anniversary of eminent poet and prolific writer Syed Mohsin Naqvi is being observed today (Monday).
Born on May 10, 1947, Mohsin Naqvi gained widespread recognition in the literary world for his unparalleled and distinctive literary creations. Hailing from the village of Sadat near Dera Ghazi Khan, he pursued his undergraduate studies at Govt College, Bosan Road, Multan, and later completed his Masters at the University of Punjab, Lahore.
Originally named Ghulam Abbas Naqvi, he transitioned to being known as Mohsin Naqvi upon arriving in Lahore. Also recognized as the Shayar of Ahl al-Bayt, his poetic verses are celebrated and recited worldwide.
Among his notable works on Urdu poetry are Azab-e-deed, Khaima-e-Jaan, Barg-e-Sehra, Talu-e-ashk, Rida-e-Khwab, and more. His father, Syed Chirag Hussain Shah, worked as a food vendor, and Naqvi, originally named Ghulam Abbas, later adopted the name Ghulam Abbas Mohsin Naqvi. He had six siblings.
He was murdered on January 15, 1996, in Lahore. Following his murder, his body was transported to his hometown, Block 45 Dera Ghazi Khan, where he was laid to rest amidst the presence of thousands of mourners.
